Look Impress

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Look Impress collects when you visit lookimpress.com, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have over it.

Who We Are

Look Impress (lookimpress.com) is a fashion publication for women over 50, owned and operated by Amelia McCormick from New York, USA. In this policy, “Look Impress,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the site and its editorial team.

We decide what personal information this site collects and how it is used, which makes Look Impress the “data controller” under laws such as the GDPR and the “business” or “controller” under U.S. state privacy laws. For any privacy question or request, email contact@lookimpress.com or write to us at [Mailing address].

Information We Collect

Information collected automatically. When you visit Look Impress, our servers and third-party tools collect your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, approximate location (city or region, based on your IP address), the page that referred you, the pages you view, and cookie or similar identifiers.

Information you give us. We collect what you choose to send: your email address and first name when you join the newsletter; your name, email address, and message when you contact us; and the details you include in a correction report, image rights request, or DMCA notice. If you share body measurements with a fit question, we use them only to answer you.

Information we don’t collect. We don’t sell products or process payments, so we never see your card details. We don’t ask for sensitive personal information, such as health records, government ID numbers, or precise geolocation.

How We Use Your Information

  • To run the site, keep it secure, and protect it against spam and abuse.
  • To understand, in aggregate, which articles readers find useful, so we can improve and update them.
  • To send the newsletter you asked for.
  • To reply to your messages, corrections, and rights requests.
  • To show and measure advertising, and to earn affiliate commissions that fund our testing.
  • To meet legal obligations and enforce our terms.

We don’t use your information to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see how many people visit, which articles they read, and whether the site works well on phones. These reports are aggregated and don’t tell us who you are. Google processes this data under the Google Privacy Policy, and you can block Google Analytics on every site with Google’s opt-out browser add-on.

We also use Google Search Console, which shows us the search terms that bring readers to the site. That data reaches us already aggregated and never identifies individual searchers.

Advertising

Advertising keeps Look Impress free to read. Ads on the site are placed by a third-party ad network and the advertising partners it works with.

To choose and measure ads, these companies use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies to collect your IP address, approximate location, device and browser details, and the pages you view on this site and others.

Some ads are interest-based, meaning they’re selected from a profile of your browsing across many websites. Some partners may also recognize your browser by its characteristics, or use an encoded (hashed) email address where you’ve provided one and agreed.

We don’t receive those profiles. We see only aggregated reports on ad performance and revenue. Our ad network’s own privacy notice appears at the end of this page and explains how it handles your data. Where Google technologies are involved, Google explains its practices in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

You’ll find ways to limit ad tracking under “Cookies and Your Choices” below. Opting out doesn’t remove ads. It means the ads you see won’t be based on your interests.

Affiliate Links

When you click an affiliate link, the retailer or affiliate network places a cookie that records that you arrived from Look Impress, so it can credit us if you make a purchase. We receive summary reports, such as items sold and commission earned, never your name, address, or payment details. Our Affiliate Disclosure explains how these relationships work.

Newsletter and Contact Form

Newsletter. If you subscribe, we use your email address and first name only to send the newsletter. We record whether emails are opened and links are clicked so we can tell what readers find useful. Every email includes an unsubscribe link that works immediately, or you can ask us to remove you.

Contact form and email. When you write to us, your name, email address, and message are delivered to our inbox and stored in our website database so we can reply. Messages are screened by [spam filter, e.g., Akismet], which checks the submission and your IP address against known spam patterns. Writing to us never adds you to the newsletter.

Embedded Content and External Links

Some articles include content embedded from other sites, such as Pinterest pins, Instagram posts, or videos. Embedded content behaves as if you visited the other site, and that site may collect data about you under its own privacy policy. Our share buttons send nothing to social networks until you click one.

We also link to retailers, brands, and other websites. Once you leave Look Impress, the other site’s privacy policy applies, and we encourage you to read it.

Cookies and Your Choices

Our Cookie Policy lists the cookies we use and why. Here is how you can control them:

  • Consent banner. Visitors from the UK, EEA, Switzerland, and other regions where it’s required see a consent notice before advertising and analytics cookies load. You can change your choice at any time through the [Cookie Settings] link in our footer.
  • Do Not Sell or Share. U.S. visitors can use the [Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information] link in our footer to opt out of personalized advertising.
  • Global Privacy Control. We treat a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from your browser as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, and the site shows a confirmation that your opt-out request has been honored.
  • Industry opt-out tools. You can opt out of interest-based ads from participating companies through the Digital Advertising Alliance, the Network Advertising Initiative, Your Online Choices in Europe, or YourAdChoices in Canada. You can also adjust Google’s ad settings at My Ad Center.
  • Browser and device settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies, and phones and tablets include settings to limit ad tracking.

Most opt-outs are stored in a cookie, so clearing your cookies may reset them. Our site doesn’t respond to the older “Do Not Track” browser signal, because no common standard exists for it. Global Privacy Control is the signal we honor.

Your Privacy Rights in the United States

California and a growing number of other states, including Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon, Texas, and Virginia, give residents rights over their personal information. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose, and receive a copy of it
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your information
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of your information and its use for targeted advertising
  • Appeal our decision if we decline your request

Using these rights will never cost you access to the site or lead to different treatment.

Sale and sharing for advertising. When advertising partners collect data through cookies and similar technologies on our site, California law treats that as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, and other state laws treat it as targeted advertising, even though no one pays us for your information directly. In the past 12 months, we have collected and made available the following categories:

Advertising data goes to ad technology companies such as ad exchanges, supply-side platforms, and demand-side platforms. We don’t collect sensitive personal information, and we don’t knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.

How to make a request. To opt out, use the [Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information] link or turn on Global Privacy Control. For any other request, email contact@lookimpress.com with “Privacy Request” in the subject line.

We’ll verify your identity, usually by confirming you control the email address involved, and respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we’ll tell you why and may extend once by up to 45 more days. An authorized agent may submit a request for you with your signed permission.

Appeals. If we decline your request, reply to our decision with “Appeal” in the subject line. We’ll review it and respond within the time your state’s law requires. If you’re not satisfied with the outcome, you may contact your state attorney general.

Your Rights in the UK, EEA, and Switzerland

You have the right to access your personal data, correct it, have it erased, restrict or object to its processing, receive it in a portable format, and withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing consent doesn’t affect processing that happened before. We respond to requests within one month, extended by up to two further months for complex requests, in which case we’ll let you know.

Our legal bases. We rely on:

  • Consent for the newsletter and for advertising and analytics cookies where the law requires it.
  • Legitimate interests for keeping the site secure, preventing abuse, and replying to your messages.
  • Legal obligation where we must keep records or respond to lawful requests.

International transfers. Look Impress is operated from [Country], and our site is hosted in [the United States]. When your data is transferred outside the UK, EEA, or Switzerland, our service providers and we rely on safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses and, where a provider is certified, the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions.

Complaints. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, email contact@lookimpress.com with “Privacy Complaint” in the subject line. We’ll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and tell you the outcome without undue delay. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority. In the UK, that is the Information Commissioner’s Office.

How We Protect Your Information

The site runs over an encrypted HTTPS connection. We keep our software and plugins up to date, limit administrative access to the people who need it, and protect accounts with strong passwords and two-factor authentication.

No website can promise perfect security, but we keep as little personal information as possible, and if a breach affects you, we’ll notify you as the law requires.

Children’s Privacy

Look Impress is written for adult women and isn’t directed at children under 13, or under 16 where local law sets that age. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us their information, email [contact@lookimpress.com] and we’ll delete it.

Changes to This Policy

When we add a new tool, partner, or legal requirement, we update this page and change the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we’ll post a notice on the site and let newsletter subscribers know.
